Day Three Pictures

Day Three morning had our Team A in Day Care and Team Bruce back on phase two!

Team A taught a new lesson in the Day Care using Jesus' example and teaching the kids how to pray.

Using the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:5-15, our students walked them through, what does hallowed mean? What does God mean by bread? What does debts mean? What does temptation mean?

At the end of the lesson, the kids made an awesome craft designed again by Sarah who has done an amazing job leading all things kiddos this week.

TeamBruce headed to phase two to dig dig dig out those coffee plants closest to where the new bridge will be placed once the permit comes in! Please pray with us that the permit will come through this week!

Devotions were led on Day Three by our sweet Madeline. She was a part of our RiverStone Youth team a few years back - two years in a row! And has now returned to the Abraham Project as an intern! Super proud of this girl, her heart for the nations, and how she carries the joy of the Lord no matter where she goes!

Afternoon brought more projects and team #allgirlsknockitout completely cleared this side of the bridge. Come on! I am so super proud!

Notice the before:

And after:

Team Bruce taught our second round of English lessons and did an amazing job with the older kids. No matter what we ask our team to do they do it whole heartedly.

Our day also consisted of figuring out that Noah is the sheetrock/drywall master. We had the sweetest prayer time with our missionary family.

And we discovered that our students are sweet, tender, and super competitive when it comes to playing cards 😍😭☺️😂

Day Three.

So, like clock work, I woke up at around 5:15 this morning (7:15 Georgia Time). I've done this every morning since we've gotten here. I went ahead and started my quiet time, which went kinda off path from the plan. Yesterday, we asked God for some words to describe us after writing our own descriptions of ourself. While I was writing, I suddenly heard, "Why can you say such beautiful things about me, but I can't about you without doubt?" It was really eye opening and really deep for just waking up. However, I'm very happy that I did hear that and have allowed the Lord to speak to me and process it through out my day.

For breakfast, we had hash browns, eggs, bread with Franco's homemade jamjam, and wonderful fellowship with the team. We have had a great time together this week. Soon we were riding the bus to the Abraham Project with laughter from some joke. Once we got there, we split into Team A and Team Bruce (we refuse to be called Team B) and Team Bruce went to Phase 2 - pulling out coffee trees from the ground was on the agenda for this morning!

Until Sean and I were stuck with the same tree for what felt like forever. Every single time we tried to use the shovel to 'spin' the tree in he dirt, some branch would start to break and make it even harder to get out. It felt so wonderful once that tree was out of the ground. Sean climbing a mango tree for a not ripe mango (just to say he did) and staying hydrated were in the morning mix.

Team Bruce took all of the gear back to the office and the whole group met up in the gym for a devotional and testimony from the interns. It was a really moving talk about acknowledging your weaknesses and accepting them instead of ingnoring them. We then prayed over the community around the Abraham Project and the people within the church.

12:30 came and it was lunch time! I personally was very hungry and was very happy to see arroz con pollo (chicken in rice but it's so much more than just that, it's amazing) and homemade chips. I had a great time talking to the team and the missionaries. At least Noah and I were on a second portion before Stephen Jr. was done with his first plate. Right after lunch, we sat and listened to Sergio's testimony. His life went from one of the worst places without God to living a life loving Him. It was very powerful and very beautiful in its own way.

Team Bruce then went with Mrs. Kenda to teach some of the older kids English. I had a really good time. I was paired with a girl named Alison who was adorable! She was very willing to learn and we quickly established that we could  communicate in broken language. Alison was very sweet and I was kinda upset when the lesson was over.

The group walked over to the gym and started playing soccer/volleyball. I demonstrated my terrible soccer skills very quickly, but I still had a good time. The plan was suddenly changed by some unexpected changes thanks to the weather so we went and played with 2-3 year old kids in the daycare. Becca and I went with a group of about 5 little girls who were so energetic while giving us fake food and dolls. They were absolutely adorable!!

Afterwards the whole mission team went to Steve and Georgiana's house to pray for them and their youngest daughter (who is going to college). It was very sweet and that is a wonderful family. Kristin brought some pastries (thanks to Bruce!) from a nearby panadería which was great food too. That ended our day at the Abraham Project and we rode our bus home.

Before dinner started, Gabby, Becca and I started a game of Go Fish. Dinner was great with some spaghetti and more bread. We went back to playing Go Fish with more people. I dropped out to write this blog post, but during the game an iconic quote was said. This completely sums up our level of brain function at this time of the day.

"Do you have a black red?" Noah.

Well, we're about to start the team meeting. I can't wait for the rest of the week!

Joy of the Lord.

As leaders we can not get over how joyful this team is. They truly are a gift from the Lord.

Lord-let us be used by you!

Day Two Work Pictures!
One crew stayed at phase one to work on the backhoe (aren't they doing an awesome job). Once they finished up they headed over to phase two - double duty!

Here's our Sheetrock/drywall crew:

While the rest of us headed on over to phase two to start clearing the land. We are so thankful for this opportunity to be a part of something so huge that the Lord is doing.
The jobs entailed digging up the big rocks, pruning down the coffee plants and the areas around them - so that the other team members could come in and dig up the coffee plants. The coffee plants will both be sold and used as fire wood.

What a beautiful glorious day.

Before the Throne.

Day two our missionaries introduced something new to us - which was a prayer and worship time in the middle of our day. Our heart is to serve and invest into the people down here and our missionaries are intentional to invest into us. As a youth pastor, there are no words big enough to say thank you for the intentional investment that has been given to our students.
After a time of teaching, we were given an opportunity to put what we learned into action. Prayer cards for the children's homes kiddos were given to us and we had the opportunity to lift their names and situations before the Throne of God. Many of our students (myself included) came undone as they/we interceded for these precious children.

Day Care

One of the joys of working at the Abraham Project is getting to work on the Day Care. The AP has provided a safe place for those in the surrounding community. It is a highlight of our trip to be able to spend time in the classrooms each day.

Our fearless leader Sarah prepared lessons before hand and our students have practiced them and then taught them each day. Monday and Tuesday the lesson was Introduing Prayer: how to pray, what prayer is, and where to pray.

Depending on the age, the craft was a little different, but the lesson was the same.

Using the hand as an illustration we had five points:

  • Praise God: praise means to admire. Psalm 66:17. Psalm 95:2. Praising God is telling him you love him and you need him.
  • Confess your sins: tell God anything you have done wrong and ask Him to forgive you. 1Joh 1:9. If we tell God what we have done wrong and that we are sorry he will forgive us and make us clean.
  • Thank God: "let us come into His presence with thanksgiving" Thank God for what He has done for you.
  • Pray for others: James 5:19. Pray for your friends and family. Pray for our brothers and sisters across the world to know God and be safe.
  • Pray for yourself.

So proud of our kids that have each taught, led, and crafted in the daycare! It's no easy task as the kiddos speak a different language than you!
